My journey in the oil and gas industry began in 1967 when I purchased a 3.125% (1/32nd) interest in an oil well in Henderson County, Texas, which produced a consistent flow rate of 172 barrels of oil a day. It wasn’t long until I had assembled a team of investors and industry partners who were taking up to 25% in shallow, lower risk wells. By the mid 1990s, we had expanded into deeper, higher-reserve “impact” wells.
Frustrated by cost overruns, rig delays, and sometimes less than upfront partners, I made the commitment in 2002 to operate my own wells because I knew I could work harder, smarter, and more efficiently than “the next guy” and was willing to do whatever it took to develop better prospects and higher returns for myself and my investors. Today, I manage an estimated $1.8 billion in non operator oil and gas reserves and am developing my own fields with an additional $1.5 billion in reserve value.
My purpose is simple: drill low-cost, high-yield wells to maximize the efforts and investments of myself and my partners. My strategy is sound: use the brightest personnel and the latest oil and gas field technology to discover and develop “home run” fields. My motive is sure: become a significant contributor in the industry I know and love and be a faithful and wise servant of the time, investment, and resources of those who are coming along with me on this journey.
